Take On A Route Towards To Well Being Inside A Dry Infrared Sauna
Many of us have stepped into and in many cases enjoyed conventional saunas, which heat the entire body indirectly via hot air or, less often steam. However, there is a distinct type of sauna which heats your body a different way - the dry infrared sauna. With the dry infrared sauna, specific infrared emitters heat your physique directly, rather than via conducting air flow or moisture, by infrared radiant heat.
Several people have recommended the use of a dry infrared sauna as being a health aid. Indeed, far infrared saunas happen to be approved by the Canadian Standards Association and can be bought by the public without hesitation. Manufacturers state the saunas are useful conjunctive treatments for many disorders, yet the veracity of these claims remains uncertain at this moment, as only few controlled studies have been performed.
For example, a study published in Clinical Rheumatology and indexed in PubMed, a resource on the National Library of Medicine, sought to study the effects of infrared saunas in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. In this pilot research project of 17 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and 17 patients with ankylosing spondylitis were studied having a treatment for a 4-week period of time using eight infrared sauna treatments. No negative effects or worsening of ailment symptoms were noticed. Rather, stories of pain and stiffness reduced in a statistically significant manner in the two patient groups inside of one FIR infrared sauna treatment.
Fatigue also lessened as being a result of the procedures. Both groups of patients described being more comfortable after the procedure. Over the 4-week treatment period, even out of a recent exposure to infrared sauna, self-reports of pain, stiffness and fatigue all tended to decrease in both patient groups too. The authors, a Dutch group based out of the Expertise Center of Wellness at the Saxion University of Applied Sciences, concluded that an episode of infrared sauna had quick palliative effects on pain, stiffness and fatigue, and that these clinical improvements were known to be maintained even outside of proximate treatment across a Four-week, biweekly exposure time period.
A review of far-infrared saunas also has been published recently in the Canadian Family Physician journal. In that publication, the author, Dr. Richard Beever, reviewed English literature indexed within the Web of Science, EBSCO, Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid HealthSTAR, and EMBASE. He identified 9 papers examining the potential health benefits of far-infrared sauna. From this assessment, it was concluded that congestive heart failure and coronary risk factors may be appropriate symptoms for far infrared sauna with 5 and 4 studies, respectively observing possibly beneficial effects of infrared sauna on these disorders.
Other indications with minimal evidence supporting the therapeutic possibility of infrared sauna include chronic pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, obesity, and high cholesterol. Clearly much more work is necessary to investigate the therapeutic potential and mechanism of action of this important technology.
