An Alcoholic Goes To Alcohol Rehabilitation And Receives Alcohol Detox And Treatment For His Alcohol Dependency

Donald used to brag to his drinking pals how he could stay employed at a difficult and full-time job and get smashed almost every night. Regrettably, after involving himself in this party lifestyle for approximately two-and-a-half years, he started to observe various alcohol related difficulties.

For example, he had a very difficult time getting up for work because he felt so drained when he got up. Not only this, but almost every morning Donald suffered through a painful hangover. In short, the mixture of his lack of get-up-and-go and his hangovers did not make it easy for him to get up and feel like he wanted to go to work. To make things more difficult, around a week ago he got his second drunk driving arrest in the past nine months.

To complicate things further, at work his last two performance evaluations were less than tolerable. And lastly, his four-and-a-half-year relationship with his girlfriend had declined due to his depression, financial difficulties, lack of patience, and his angry outbursts.

Although Donald was only twenty-five years old, he frankly started to look like he was in his late thirties. Regrettably, this is what abusive and irresponsible drinking can do to an individual. And in all honesty he comprehended that he was experiencing the negative consequences of alcohol addiction or alcohol abuse and that he was too young to give up his life to abusive and excessive drinking. So initially he tried to drink in moderation. Regrettably, he soon understood that he lost all control after ingesting his first drink. Since this was a situation that was repeated virtually every time he drank, this troubled him greatly. In fact, he started to wonder if he was manifesting some of the stages of alcoholism.

After articulating his alcohol drinking problems and his irresponsible and hazardous drinking with his girlfriend, he eventually decided to make an appointment to see his physician. When Donald saw his family doctor, he actually stated that he has been abusing alcohol, that he may be manifesting behavior that is representative of the various alcoholism stages, and that he wants to abstain from drinking. He then declared that drinking in moderation does not work for him and as a result, he wants to learn how he can live without drinking alcohol.

Donald also told his healthcare practitioner about his depression and how this mental health issue was negatively influencing his relationship with his girlfriend. His healthcare practitioner referred Donald to Doctor Plaff, a drug and alcohol addiction therapist, who influenced Donald to enter into an alcohol and drug treatment center as an in-patient for alcohol detoxification and alcohol treatment. Fortunately, Donald would also be able to get treatment for his depression at this treatment center.

After five months of rigorous treatment, Donald left the in-patient rehab center and continued his recovery via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and via outpatient counseling. Motivated to change his life in a healthier way, Donald joined a fitness center and started working out three or four times per week. Within five months Donald was a new man. He was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, he was not depressed anymore, and most significant of all, he remained sober for numerous months. He also became more patient, he did not resort to angry outbursts, and he became a more caring individual in his relationship with his girlfriend. In brief, quitting drinking was the best decision Donald had ever made.
