A Friday Evening Out With School Buddies At A Local College Pub Results In Excessive And Hazardous Drinking And Symptoms Of Alcohol Poisoning
When Lois was in high school, she had established a reputation as a book worm who rarely, if ever, "got down" and drank with her buddies. She seemed almost obsessed about "standing out" academically so that she would be able to pursue a career that she not only enjoyed but one that also gave her a degree of security from a financial standpoint.
After Lois graduated from high school, she applied to and was accepted into a greatly admired program in English. Her logic behind this decision was that this academic discipline would be a good springboard for law school and would not be similar to the majority of law school applicants who choose political science as their undergraduate minor or major.
Lois was the type of person who worked relentlessly to complete what she was doing and then would take a few days off when she could. It just so happens, nevertheless, that a good number of the things she did between terms or during summer breaks did not involve drinking. Obviously, Lois was anything but a partygoer. Now that her final exams for her second year in law school were finished and feeling happy that she had done a super job on her finals, because of this, she felt like celebrating.
So Lois and a few of her buddies went to a local watering hole where they had a few drinks. As the evening went by, Lois and her friends continued to drink. As a matter of fact she was having such a terrific time that she didn't want the night to come to an end.
After drinking about an-hour-and-a-half when Lois started to slur her words, speak in a confused manner, and then pass out, however, her pals promptly realized that they needed to call that they needed to call 911, the emergency number, and ask for emergency assistance because they suspected that Lois was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms.
Lois was conscious of the fact that she came close to dying due to an alcohol overdose and, as a result, was grateful to be alive. At the same time, nevertheless, she was somewhat disheartened knowing that she had almost passed away the previous night. Her parents realized how rigorously she studied at college and how little she let herself socialize with her buddies. Nonetheless, they also were aware that Lois needed to avoid careless drinking.
As a consequence, they recommended that in the future, whenever a drinking circumstance presents itself, that she always drink in moderation and responsibly. Lois was in agreement with this and promised her friends and her Mom and Dad that she would never again drink in an excessive manner. As stated by Lois, "I never had an inkling that I would become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local university newspaper. I now know that irresponsible and hazardous drinking is not my style. I say publicly that this will never happen again."
Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also possessed. Stated another way, she instantaneously understood that she had made a mistake and decided that she would not make the same error in judgment again. If truth be told, she now realized that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of abusive and careless drinking can result in death.
